EXDATE
The iCalendar field that removes specific dates from a recurring series, like a holiday skip.
EXDATE lists occurrences that would match the recurrence rule but should not happen: the Labor Day practice that is off, the service that moves for a holiday. It is how weekly forever coexists with except that one week.
When schedules are written for humans (September 7: OFF), the skip lives in prose. Converting prose schedules to calendars correctly means translating those notes into removed occurrences, not just generating every rule match.
